Great pub. Highly recommend it. The service was excellent. The lovely lady who served us went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Extra mashed potatoes for my fussy Uncle made us all have a giggle. A young lad bought our food out and he was also brilliant. The 2 friendly, helpful staff made our afternoon even more memorable.

Exactly what I needed to recharge and relax. Delicious food (and swift service!), very comfy bed for a sound night's sleep, and the staff could not have been more helpful. I was really well looked after, and as a woman staying alone, I felt …

Excellent stay at this great little country pub. Lovely comfy room, good restaurant and breakfast and always a warm welcome from the owners. The location is ideal for south Derby and the surrounding area and the M1 is only 20 mins away. It's become my preferred bolt hole for business trips in the area.

We stayed here overnight to attend a business meeting of great importance to us as a couple. We met with John & Jane on arrival who are a fabulous , hardworking couple. They greeted us with warm smiles and we struck up conversation immediately. We felt so welcome in their home . The rooms are beautiful, the food homemade and tasty, hospitality was fantastic. Would definitely recommend to stay here and we will return 👍 😊 and the business meeting results were just what we wanted 😉 Rooms: Absolutely stunning rooms. Clean, attention to detail, adequate condiments, felt luxurious. It's the small things , the little touches, chocolates on fresh clean towels, welcome stickers on toilet rolls, flowers. Beautiful furniture. Simply perfect. Food & drinks: Outstanding homemade food, served beautifully, piping hit, tasted lush. We had fish pie and the steak pie.

A quintessential English pub experience with the bonus of modern facilities.I chose The Staff of Life for its location and vegetarian menu and it exceeded my expectation by far. I stayed for one night night B&B, the room standard and cleanliness were exceptional, and the friendliness of the staff was a huge bonus. Unpretentious tasty food, well prepared and presented.

Called for food after a visit to Calke Abbey. Both the beer and the food were absolutely excellent. A wait for the food whilst it was cooked, but we'll worth the wait. I would recommend the trio of sausages in a delicious onion gravy. Pay a visit if you are in the area!

Been twice and each time when ordering drinks at the bar, despite asking to take and peruse a menu, we have been made to wait until a member of staff brings us a menu to the table. This seems an unnecessary and misplaced affectation when we could be sitting reading it and enjoying our drinks at the same time. The food is good but the unnecessary wait is frustrating.
